Life Coach for the Stanford Community
Always the next milestone.
The defense. The promotion. The grant. The exit. Stanford runs on deferred living — everything now is preparation for something later, and later keeps moving. I've seen it in almost every conversation I've had there: brilliant people, hitting their marks, and quietly asking why none of it feels like arrival.
I know this world from the inside
Menlo Park is my home; Stanford is next door and part of the world I live and work in. I've taken courses at Stanford myself, and I've coached people who work and study on campus. I know the particular pressure of that environment firsthand: the constant comparison, the feeling that everyone around you is smarter, the sense that slowing down means falling behind.
Not because you're failing. Because the patterns driving your behavior were set long before you got here.
What the work is
Not strategy. Not productivity hacks. You have enough of those. I trained as an engineer, and my work is pattern recognition: we trace the reactions and decisions that keep repeating back to where they started, and change your relationship with them.
Who I work with
Faculty and staff under constant performance pressure. Researchers who are exceptional at their work and disconnected from everything else. Engineers and professionals in the Stanford orbit.
I keep my client roster small. A handful of people at a time, because this work doesn't scale.
In person near campus or in Palo Alto, or online.
The milestone that actually changes things isn't on your list.
Book the call. Thirty minutes. You'll know if this is right for you. So will I.

Questions people ask
What happens in the free call?
Thirty minutes, no script, no pitch. You tell me what's going on, I tell you what pattern I hear, and we both decide whether working together makes sense. If it doesn't, you'll still leave with something useful.
Do we meet in person or online?
Both. In person near Stanford, in Palo Alto, or in Menlo Park, online everywhere else. About half my clients I've never met in person and it works just as well.
I'm a student. Is this for me?
Usually my clients are professionals, and coaching is an investment. If you're a student feeling stuck, book the free call anyway. I'm Steffen Moessner, a life coach based in Menlo Park, California, and I'll tell you straight whether coaching makes sense for you right now. You'll leave with something useful either way.

I had a few really insightful conversations with Steffen about how childhood and education influence us later in life. It highlighted how much we, as parents, shape our kids by the example we set. He brings clarity in a very natural way.

Steffen helped me think about how to pursue a meaningful career, how to be both valuable and irreplaceable in the workplace, and when it makes sense to plan an exit. We also explored the deeper question of finding meaning in life.

What makes Steffen a great coach is his talent for listening. I was able to work through issues I was experiencing from my recent professional transition thanks to his ability to recognize decision making patterns and tropes. I recommend Steffen if you need some clarity in confusing times!
